I am indebted to
my father for living, but to my teacher for living well – Alexander the Great -
Yes, parents make good citizen but teachers make them better.
We spend a lot of time with our teachers after our mothers, especially during
childhood years. We were introduced to a person called teacher as early as four,
some even earlier than that.
One of the famous sayings by Nelson Mandela was that “Education
is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world” and teachers play
a big role in constructing the weapon for you. Teacher is a friend, a philosopher and a
guide. They must be a good friend to clear us from murky waters, guide us when
we are lost and a great philosopher of course, to enlighten us on the ways of
the real world.
A teacher has his or her own style to teach us. Whatever style
they use, the goal is only one, to raise us to be a good citizens and good
human-beings that are equipped with high knowledge. In my secondary days, there
is a teacher who always pinch me when I can’t answer her questions. But, day
after days, after hundreds pinches, I will somehow manage to answer her. At the
moment when she put her fingers on my shoulders, my lips will automatically
utter the answer. We always label her as fierce as tigers but that doesn’t stops
her from shedding tears when we surprised her on Teacher’s day. Just a frame of
our group pictures with herself, attached with a note, “we love you the most”
put her into tears. Most probably she was not aware of our existence there
because we (my best friend and I) were hiding behind the door to see her
reaction upon receiving the gift.
Not forgetting another teacher of mine, who always pamper us
with food. He is more than just a teacher. He is the one who always put smile
on our faces whenever he enters our class. His favorite question is “What is the
best food to eat right now?” and we will be listing it like nobody’s business.
Guess what? He will get us the food at that moment itself. Having food during
class hours with the doors closed and trying to make no sound at all, those
memories still fresh in my mind. He is the one who doesn’t really care how much
he had spent on us. Karaoke, dining outsides, cash, just name it.
Just like me, I’m pretty sure you guys have a lot of memories about your teachers. They care about us and prepare us for the worst. Thus, as a tribute to the hard work and devotion of the teachers all year long to educate us, we celebrate Teacher’s day. Of course, there’s no need of any days but every day to express our appreciation but let’s make this one day exclusively dedicated to them. A good teacher is like a candle. It consumes itself to light the way for others and for that, Happy Teacher’s Day!
