Users are welcome to use this attribute and it is not obligatory. It is said that the social networking giant had introduced this feature to enable its users to see which friends, relatives, or friends in a group are within reach.
This application seems to be homogenous to "Apple's Free Find My Friends IOS" application. It’s a rather radical idea, Facebook said Thursday was designed to encourage people to “meet up and spend time together” in real life.
If the nearby friend's application is turned on, the users will be notified every now and then, when their friends are adjacent. This helps them to get in touch with their buddies and meet up.
